Welcome to the God Spectrum!

Audio:  One of God’s most elaborate and complex creations, in my opinion.  Noise from an acoustic source, converted into energy moving at thousands of cycles through the air, converted into an electrical or digital signal, and ultimately re-introduced as acoustic sound again.  Thousands of unseen frequencies woven together by the hand of God to form intricately simple notes and chords that have the power to provoke, emote, remember, inspire, depress, encourage, and even physically immobilize people or things.  Sound reflects many properties of God Himself: you can never get away from it, it is always there filling every space around you, it can be loud or quite, it’s speaking even if you choose to ignore it, there are parts of it easy to hear, other parts that are so out of our range we can’t detect it yet it’s still affecting the sound and the air around us.

All of this is what intrigues me about sound.  I happen to view it from a musical, technical, technological, and mysterious view-point.  Others may view it from a listening-enjoyment point-of-view through music or poetry.  Surely, many share my same point-of-view.  Certainly, God has given me a great blessing in talents for things of the audible nature.  And certainly, He has intended for me to share whatever knowledge He’s allowed me to gain.  Through the facets of live sound, recording, and other avenues, I hope you’ll join with me in this blog to rediscover sound for the miracle that it is, and for the glory it can bring to God.

Each week, I’ll focus on a specific topic related to audio.  One week might be live sound in general, the next week could be recording at home, the next week I may review some gear, and the next could be exploring new ways to understand sound.  This will be an excellent resource for those running live sound for their church, recording at home, church, or studio, interested in computer audio, as well as for musicians wanted to know more about playing live and in the studio.  We’ll review and cover cool gear and how to use it to further your skill and be more complete and professional at the blessings and talents the Lord has entrusted to you.  It’ll be fun!  It’ll be exciting!  Crazy awesome.

Let the games begin!
